The origin

MCF was established in 2011 by IFPRODUCTIONS. Ilse van Velzen and Femke van Velzen began to make documentaries with a strong belief in the power of film. Their wish has always been not only to tell stories about certain countries, but also to bring the films back to the communities where the documentaries were filmed.

The Foundation emanates from the experience IFPRODUCTIONS gained in responding to requests from local and international organizations to make documentaries available for educational purposes especially in developing countries. The Foundation mainly works with communities that have little to no access to film. This inspired IFPRODUCTIONS to use inexpensive, adaptable mobile cinema technology. The MCF supports and/or implements tailor-made projects whereby documentaries (destined to international audiences) are reshaped in order to respond to the interests and educational needs of communities in which the films are made.
